It’s never too early to book your newborn photos! I am typically booked 2-3 months in advance, so it's best to reserve your session as early as possible. I will tentatively reserve your session on my calendar as your due date and ask that you contact me within 2-3 days of baby's arrival so we can set a definitive date and time for the session. If any changes occur during your pregnancy such as a scheduled C-section or your due date is adjusted, you can let me know.
In order to capture those sleepy, curled-up poses of your baby, it's best to do the photos when the baby is 6-21 days old. Typically, during the first couple of weeks, they are the sleepiest and still love to curl up like when they were in mom's belly. All newborn photoshoots take place in my private studio which is located in a separate building on my property at my home on Wadmalaw Island.
Yes! I provide everything that may be needed for your newborn session including wraps, headbands, hats/bonnets, buckets, bowls, baskets, (and even miniature beds!). I purchase my newborn photo props from reputable vendors who provide high-quality products. I also have a huge collection of newborn posing fabrics in a variety of colors and textures. You don't have to buy or bring any props with you – I've got it covered!
Newborn photo sessions typically last 3 hours – this time allows for plenty of feedings and frequent soothing when needed. The baby's mood and willingness to sleep drives the length of the session. Your baby's comfort and safety is my priority. I do not force the baby into poses that they do not seem comfortable in. Since the baby will be naked or covered sparingly for most of the session, I keep the studio warm, so please dress accordingly. (The warmth also helps them sleep better!). The studio will be customized and styled for your newborn photoshoot before you arrive and will include varying poses of baby on the beanbag and in several props.
Yes; poses with parents and/or siblings can be included as part of your newborn portrait session. I generally start the photoshoot by doing parent and/or sibling poses with the baby first. If your other child(ren) is/are young, be cognizant of the length of the session and entertaining them for the remaining duration of the session. Sometimes, the children's other parent or family member will leave with the children after this part of portrait session is completed.
Since most of the parent and sibling poses are from the waist up, the type of pants is not as important – jeans, khakis, or black pants are sufficient. I do recommend that everyone wear a solid-colored shirt in a neutral or pastel color (and not everyone wearing the same color shirt). A light patterned shirt would be fine too – just stay away from busy patterns, bright colors, and screen printed shirts. Dresses that follow these same guidelines for mom or little girls would also be suitable. Moms: be aware of bulky watches, hair bands on wrists, and chipped fingernail polish. I like keeping everyone's wardrobe light and simple so nothing distracts from the baby!
Not much at all…just a few essentials!
• Diapers/wipes
• Pacifier (may help with soothing while posing)
• Extra milk/bottles (if not nursing)
Yes – my sessions are all-inclusive meaning you will receive 25 high resolution, digital images via an online gallery. Each image will be provided in color and black & white so you actually receive double the number of images. A print release will be included so you are able to print the images as you wish. Approximately 2-3 weeks after the session is complete, you will be notified via email when the online gallery is ready.
Maternity photoshoots booked in addition to a newborn photoshoot receive a $100 discount. I love being a part of the entire journey and it’s an honor when a family chooses me to be a part of it!
First, contact me so we can set a date for your session. Once that has been determined, I will require a signed contract and $100 non-refundable deposit to reserve your session date and rate. The contract will be sent to you via email and can be signed digitally. I will also send you an invoice for the deposit which can be paid with a debit or credit card. The remaining balance of your contract will be due on the day of the session.
